Yesterday I had a sweet, sweet moment of realization. I am the door. I am not the hinges that open the door to opportunity, but I am the actual effing door. I can quite literally open myself up anytime, to anything.
I used to go to church. My instinct whenever I wanted something was to pray. Throughout my early twenties, I fought this instinct long after I stopped going to church. I would catch myself walking home from the bar mouthing, Lord keep me safe. Whether God listens to drunken prayers is another entire question.
Praying gradually shifted to meditating. Now I find myself meditating whenever I have the desire to pray. Instead of Lord keep me safe, I meditate on I am safe. Instead of God give me strength, I meditate I am strong.
Naturally, after meditation, one dabbles in manifesting. Part of my manifestation journey has been loudly and boldly sharing the desires of my heart. Earlier this year, on my Instagram story, I shared that I had queried some publishers and agents for my manuscript, and I was planning a trip to my home country in Mexico this April. I had a feeling something was going to happen on this trip.
We packed our bags, and after a 6-hour delayed flight, made it to Playa del Carmen. We ate mangos from the fruit stand every breakfast, and devoured every kind of taco I grew up eating (Carnitas will always be dominant!). I even got to visit the villa where I’m hosting a Poetry and Yoga retreat in 2025.
In the middle of the trip, I got a life-changing email. It was from an agent! They wanted to represent me and my next book. (Yep, I actually spilled my beer and ran through the condo waving my laptop in the air.)
I am giddy and thrilled to announce I am working with Carly Watters from P.S. Literary Agency to find a home for my book.
I am the door. It is open. I am open.
In the spirit of manifesting loudly, I will say it now. This book is going to warm souls searching for a soft place to rest their bones.
Thank you to everyone who offered their congratulations yesterday! You delight this ole soul.
Xo,
Maria
