It’s Saturday and I’m feeling wistful. A tad sleepy, and in the mood to chat with you all.
I returned home from Mexico on Thursday night after spending a month writing in my home country. When people say something was everything they needed, I usually don’t believe them. Maybe now I will. I feel like my body is aligned with my poems again. Maybe. I have a pot of poems on the stove, boiling.
I also participated in a traditional tezmezcal healing ceremony. A post about that coming soon. Basically, I might be able to feel love through my fingertips now. Who knew.
I digress…I have two exciting spring updates below! But first, a few photos from my time in Mexico.

1. Gather opens on April 1st!
My writing community, Gather, is opening up to new members in just three days! This upcoming 12-week round is an opportunity for poets to dedicate themselves to a weekly writing practice, meet other talented poets, and learn from guest poets (Danusha Lameris is visiting in May!). More details here.
We have spots for just 25 new members to join us. Our waitlist has over 700 poets eager to join!
*Super important: I will be emailing the invite to join on April 1st at 9am ET to the entire waitlist. Spots fill within hours so please set a reminder. This will be the last time we accept new poets until the fall, so if you’ve been antsy to join, now is the time.
2. National Poetry Writing Month
It wouldn’t be April without daily poetry prompts. We have a TON of fun writing a poem a day every year. Historically, I’ve always shared these prompts solely on my Instagram. However, this year, I’ll also share them here on my Substack. (Exclusive to Substack: I will also be posting a corresponding craft challenge for each prompt for those writers wanting to go deeper this April.)
*Please note: These prompts will not be sent out daily via email. I will be emailing out every 7th prompt. I don’t want to flood your inboxes. Don’t fret—the rest are still being posted in App. To access these daily prompt posts, simply visit my Substack page and you’ll find all the prompts under “Archive".
You can also follow me on Instagram here where I’ll post one every day.
I’ve always given access to my poetry prompts for free; however, if you’d like to show your support, upgrading to a paid subscription would be greatly appreciated. Stress on the greatly <3
🌷Spring Forecast
A flood of gutsy, bold poems written in Gather
Bouquets of poetry besties being born
Probably our hearts are going grow
At least seven poems we’ll cry about
The best poems we’ve ever written
I’m not a weatherwoman, but my track record for predicting and manifesting great poems has been spot-on. Write with me this spring?
Love,
Maria
